Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku Episode 3 Review – “Update Notice!”

The five-girl group receives the spotlight this week, the girls find out about the truth behind magical girls who stop being magical girls, more partnerships are formed, and an important update is announced. What does that do for Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikau?

I’ll answer the important question after I quickly go over the details that stood out for this episode. As I stated above, Ruler and her four lackeys received the bulk of the focus this episode.

Top Speed may have a history with Ruler? It looks like an one-sided friendship, however.

Ruler continues to alternate between being a good leader and a bad boss. She found a job that is suited for Tama, claiming that she won’t let any of her subordinates quit being a mahou shoujo. But then she constantly berates them and decides on an unfair scheme after the important announcement.

The Peaky Angels, Yuna and Mina, are shown to be bratty (twin?) sisters who are lazy and obsessed with popularity. Tama, on the other hand, seems to be a good-natured, hapless girl who doesn’t have anything really going for her (I mean, her magical ability is digging holes…).

The smug Peaky Angels.

Meanwhile, Swim Swim tries her best to be Ruler’s lapdog. I apologize for missing this, but it’s implied that the last dream Nemurin entered was Swim Swim’s (in Episode 2). After all, Swim Swim always leaves their group meetings really early, right? So maybe Swim Swim has a curfew and she sleeps early. Plus the young girl in the dream mentioned wanting to serve a princess (and we can see a girl that resembles Ruler in the carriage).

This week’s eyecatch only supports this “theory.”

For a former bad girl, she sure acts really nice.

The girls all find out that Nemurin died and that anyone who stops being a magical girl dies. Some, like Ruler, take it in stride. Others, like everyone else, panic. Meanwhile, Cranberry has a mysterious smile on her face once again. She’s bad news, I’m telling you.

Are Sister Nana and Winterprison really just friends…?

As a side note, we’re finally introduced to Magicaloid, who seems to be an entirely robotic magical girl when she’s geared up. She then offers to team up with Calamity Mary, which makes sense since both girls seem infatuated with money. Magicaloid happens to be voiced by Arai Satomi, my favorite VA!

…the start of a new partnership?

As for the important announcement, Fav posted that magical girls can now exchange magical candies amongst one another. Ruler deduces that this is the admins telling the mahou shoujo to steal from one another since the exchange can be done while their magical girl devices are turned off. So who does she target? It could only be the girl who always top the charts!

No points for guessing this one right, folks.

What does this do for the show? Well, I think it makes it a bit more interesting. Sure, there was drama and tension introduced when Fav announced that he was cutting the amount of magical girls in half, but with this new update, the magical girls could start fighting amongst themselves. Now all of their magical abilities won’t be used only to do minor things like…saving people’s lives and stuff…well, those aren’t so minor, but you know what I mean. I’m sure some fans want to see combat scenes, too.

There might be some psychological elements, too. Can I trust this mahou shoujo or is she going to rob me blind when I let down my guard? Thoughts and events like that could happen. I mean, Ruler is intent on ambushing Snow White and stealing all of her magical candies and making her die, so it’s a cutthroat world. Maybe Cranberry will finally do something besides lounging about like a villian while smirking, too. However, this is all speculation, so take it with a grain of salt.

Next week’s episode is titled, “Add More Friends!” See you next week!

  1. Nice review! I was too busy rolling around and forgot this ep was coming out, so I haven’t gotten to watch it yet and totally just spoiled it for myself. Sounds like things are stepping up a notch. Looking forward to it.

      1. Oh, I didn’t think that was a bad thing. You did definitely allude to spoilers, but I went ahead and read it anyway because I didn’t want to wait. I appreciated how you condensed the main details.

        1. Ah, alrighty. Thanks. I was really bad at writing up episode reviews last season so each one ended up being like 1000+ words. As a result, I’ve been trying to make things easier for my readers (and myself heh).

I-it's not like I want you to leave a comment or anything. B-baka.
