Girlish Number Episode 11 Review – “Wavering Chitose and Determined Gojo”

Chitose seems to have lost her positive determination during the previous episode. How does our lovable yet annoying protagonist fare this week?

(Spoilers in this review

Well, it turns out that Koto and Gojo-kun were both voice actors at the same time. Imagine that.

A letter written by Koto. Does she love Gojo-kun??
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-17h46m11s322
Back when Gojo-kun was a voice actor.

Gojo-kun then has a pensive monologue as he thinks about his past and Chitose’s current situation.

And Chitose is…definitely disheartened. Everyone can tell (besides Nanami).

vlcsnap-2016-12-21-17h53m42s491
Completely different from how she was in episode 1.
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-17h56m44s788
Koto’s noticed.
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-17h56m47s963
The tied and true tactic of covering your mouth while observing.
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-17h58m49s610
Yae’s noticed, too, and is trying to encourage Chitose.
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-17h58m56s425
Her words aren’t effective at all, however.
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-17h59m06s039
Yae is aware that she failed.
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h02m01s576
Since she knows her words are cheap and not reassuring, Yae asks Gojo-kun to compliment her and give Chitose her confidence back.
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h03m35s981
I really think this is the first time we’ve seen them interact? Could be wrong.
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h05m31s844.jpg
She claimd she wanted to double-check her schedule, but what she really wanted to do is make sure Gojo-kun knew Chitose is nearly at her wits’ end and to give the viewers some exposition.
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h07m28s938
The ship is sunk, folks. From “Gojo-kun” to “Gojo-san.”
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h08m00s081
All the gals are glum without their favorite chump.

By the way, this episode features a lot of smacktalk aimed at Chitose. Everyone is acknowledging her faults, which is good?

vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h13m42s628
Yae coming to her homie’s rescue!
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h13m53s463
You tell them, girl!
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h13m58s681
Chitose is what?
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h14m08s580
SAVAGE YAE STRIKES AGAIN

Meanwhile Kuzu-P is trying to get his secret plan rolling, which involves making Nanami the focus of their campaign. However, the president shows us that he’s not just a fool by saying that Nanami needs to gain more experience.

And then he claims that he’s making a bet on Chitose in the hopes that she overcomes her setback and transforms. H-he’s cooler than I remember. I feel my old man fetish tingling.

The girls aren’t ready to go home yet so they’re chilling at a park. More Chitose dissing happens, but Nanami stands up for the absent voice actress. It turns out she really, truly likes and respects Chitose from the bottom of her heart.

vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h16m53s409
Nanami talking about Chitose’s role as a heroine in Kusure. It almost looks like she’s under the spotlight again.
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h17m05s008
None of the girls could refute this.
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h17m23s003
Nanami really is
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h17m28s720
a good girl, isn’t she?
vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h17m37s100
MEANWHILE KOTO HAS NO MERCY

And then the yuri quota is fulfilled. We needed some of this.

vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h17m43s643vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h17m56s910vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h18m06s452

Meanwhile Chitose is bumming inside her room. After Gojo-kun comes in and gives her the presents everyone gave her the other day (it seems like he held onto them since she was made to walk home while he dropped Nanami off), she admits that she’s scared that no one will pay attention to her once she’s no longer new. It’s implied that the arrival of Nanami was a wake-up call to Chitose in how she can no longer consider herself a newbie and how she needs to get her act straight.

vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h18m57s364vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h21m15s156vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h22m15s518

Good thing onii-chan is here to tell her that confidence and optimism is a powerful weapon that can help her achieve her dreams! He also finally gives Chitose the present he picked out for her.

vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h25m32s060vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h25m45s947

vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h26m21s911

As usual, Chitose enjoys hearing the praise and then asks for Gojo-kun to be more specific with his compliments. Turns out he sort of sucks at stroking people’s egos.

vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h26m56s654

vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h27m07s231vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h27m12s556vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h27m19s724vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h27m23s650

Be that as it may, Chitose feels more determined to try hard again. However, on the day of the last voice recording session for Kusure, there’s a huge blizzard that shuts down almost all forms of public transportation. Chitose is going to have to go by foot and face the elements! It looks from the preview that her co-workers may be worried she won’t show up, but we know she will! The main character has to pull through during the final episode!

vlcsnap-2016-12-21-18h28m30s160

I don’t know. I felt really sad while watching this episode because it basically cemented the fact that some people quit because they’re not good enough. It’s something that bothers me at all times. Oh, well, I should stop projecting so hard.

The last episode is titled, “Karasuma Chitose and…” See you next week!

  1. There are several reasons why this episode was very endearing to me. One of them (not surprisingly) was the cinematography. Diomedia really did a good job at utilizing a good spread of visual techniques to bring their character head spaces front and center. Now if only they didn’t muck up with the animation quality in the latter half. (Good thing the last episode looks like it was flawlessly animated in the previews. So excited.)

    1. You’re really on the money about the animation and how the viewers are given a clear view into characters’ thoughts and mindsets (oh, snap, Flip Flappers is out today)
Yeah, the animation quality for the series as a whole has been on and off.
(I’m excited for the last episode, too. Should be great!)

  2. So, both those girls love Chitose, eh? I smell a potential threesome.
    ….hey we can dream.

Noticed the comment above and your images really are loading faster. Yay!

Though I don’t – and never will – watch this show, I’m glad Chitose seems to be getting over her blues. The whole situation seems very realistic. Sorry it made you sad though :-/

    1. I have an idea of drawing a 3 panel strip where the first panel has Gojo-kun getting blown off by Koto (amazing how the meaning of a string of words change with the inclusion of the word “off”), then the second panel had Chitose laughing as Yae and Nanami are resting in her arms while Gojo helplessly watches, and the third panel has him sitting in the corner in woe. But I’m not confident in my art these days.
Threesome would be great, but I wouldn’t be against them just being friends. Wait, I run a yuri blog. Girls have to be kissing other girlsss – just kidding.
Yeaaah I switched from png to jpg after Alane gave the suggestion. I’m glad the effect is noticeable! Alane is amazing!
Mmm it is for the most part. She seems to be out of her slump, yeah! It’s about time for her to become a decent voice actress!
Oh, I get super emotional when I watch my shows. It’s something that I’ve just learned to accept. Usually I don’t write about them getting me sad, though, haha. Thanks for your concern.

      1. Yeah, lacking the ‘off’ would turn that panel nsfw in a heartbeat. Poor Gojo though. I say you should draw it. Practice is always good, right?

Haha well I doubt the show itself would anything more than ship tease. I am very glad that tv tropes taught me the word ho yay because well, it’s everywherrrre.

Whew that’s good. I get ya about getting emotional while watching shows. That’s a good thing, I think.

    2. I wouldn’t be against them being just friends…wait, I run a yuri blog. They must kiss or my existence is meaningless! Just kidding.
Mmm it’s all thanks to Alane! I’m glad the effect is noticeable.
The story is realistic for the most part! Oh, I always get emotional when I watch my shows. I just usually refrain from writing about them, haha. Thanks for your concern.

    1. It must have been hard seeing your co-workers talking smack about you, but you’re the best voice actress in the industry and they know it!

(Thanks, Prattle. Your approval and kind words mean a lot ❤ )
