Well, maybe not everyone can relate to her. But I sort of did, wahaha.
The main character is an overachieving angel named Gabriel. However, she falls into depravity (aka she becomes a gaming otaku) shortly after being sent down to Earth where she can learn how to live like a human. It’s some kind of rite of passage. She also has no intentions of going back to heaven.
My thoughts on Gabriel DropOut thus far:
Gabriel is closer to acting like a demon than her actual demon friend, Vignette.
What happens if humans find out they’re angels or demons? Maybe that’ll be addressed later.
Satanichia is an overdramatic demon who actually sucks at being demonic compared to Gabriel.
I would not forgive my friend if I was stood up for two hours. Vignette, you are a good girl.
Turns out Raphiel is a sadist / troll. It’s a bit of a shock hearing Hanazawa Kana’s voice such an interesting character, but I like it.
I’m already shipping demons with angels.
The song that’s played at the end of the episode is actually nuts to listen to as it alternates between angelic voices and heavy rock melodies. But it sure is colorful.
tl;dr – Gabriel DropOut continues the trend of otaku girls who are cute yet annoying. If you enjoyed Himouto! Umaru-chan, I think this show would be right up your alley. It’s rather funny, but I’m seeing a few animation issues already.
The most promising student in Angel School, Gabriel!Tapris, Gabriel’s kouhai.Guess they’ll both be schoolmates.Noble goal! This is where it all begins. What a clean room! And then she became corrupt and sloppy.Seems like Gabriel is friends with Vignette, who seems to be an upstanding demon.Satanichia doing dastardly deeds!Meanwhile, Gabrielis even better at beingat being a bad personthan actual demons.Satanichia imagining her evil deeds as payback. She seems excited!…She’s too soft to be a demon. So she ended up not doing her homework to show off her demon pride and to be evil.Scariest teacher in 2017!So evil! You don’t mess around, do you, Satanichia? Her evil laugh starts off weak, but she improves by the second.W-what about your pride as a demon?!Oh. ;_;Gabriel slept in and stood Vignette up!GABRIELVignette’s too soft to be a demon, too!Never mind! It’s pure, alright. Pure black, that is.Oh, she’s aware. She didn’t.SHOCK!Well, Gabriel isn’t exactly a good angel, but you’re asking an angel about this?COCKROACHES AAAAAJustified reaction.Truer things have never been said. Also justified.Vignette should have held back a bit, though. Probably.Oh, it’s Gabriel’s friend, Raphiel!Satanichia losing to a dog.Excitement for Raphiel!Seriously, what’s wrong with Heaven’s angels?I agree! She’s denying the yuri?!Raphiel really likes Gabriel. Or at least seeing her suffer.Very convincing.Oh, she bought melon bread for Satanichia!Aaaand then her sadist urges come through.
This seems pretty funny. That scene with the juice really tickled me. Seems like I have a bunch of “funny” shows this season already and I don’t have any room for more. Maybe if maid dragon doesn’t work out…
I think it’s pretty funny. Yes, Gabriel is vile, haha. I actually cut out a bit from that scene, unfortunately.
Perhaps. You do have a lot going on in terms of weekly reviews ;_;
The main problem I had with this pilot screening was that the premise doesn’t feel that inspired. That and the fact that they ripped off a joke from Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.
But it has the potential to be a good show. It just has to up the ante on the jokes and actually use its premise to more comedic effect, aside from the obvious comedic irony (i.e. angels doing bad things; demons doing good things, etc.).
Would you say this is cute enough to be entertaining or just too annoying? And will the animation issues turn out to be a deal breaker? Because it sounds quite hilarious to be honest hahaha
I think the show is relatively cute and can overcome any irritation the characters may cause.
Maybe animation issues is too strong of a phrase, but it’s a bit of a letdown when some characters don’t look great in some frames and scenes. Shouldn’t be a problem for the most part, I think.
Edsamac brought up some valid points, but I’m still hopeful, yeah! You can just read episode reviews and reap the benefits without having to to sit through the show, yay! So sly of D!

Fair enough. It was entertaining, but nothing profound happened since they mostly played it safe. It still has many weeks left to go, though!

I don’t blame ya for shipping angels with demons. Been there too, I think.
This seems like a show with potential for fun. Not my kind of fun but fun nonetheless.

It feels both right and wrong. How amazing.
