Gabriel DropOut Episode 9 Review – “Christmas and New Year’s Eve Surprise”

The holiday episode is a staple for slice-of-life shows!

(Spoilers in this review

And unfortunately for Raphiel (and, to a lesser extent, Satania) fans, Vigne and Gabriel dominate this episode while the other two play supporting roles. Oh, well, you can’t win ’em all. Raphiel still has some marvelous faces in this episode, however, so yay.

There’s not much to say besides the fact that this week’s episode was more of the usual for Gabriel DropOut, really.

The episode was split into three parts. The first part happens during Christmas Eve (which is actually more important than the actual day of Christmas in Japan for some reason). Vigne attempts to make Satania overlook the fact that Christmas is supposed to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ through distractions, but she resorts to force once Satania realizes the significance of Christmas day.

Now who could this be? Also, Raphi is so good at being at a meme.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h41m18s646
Satania declaring war against Christmas.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h41m34s568
Vigne is on the warpath!
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h43m56s303
Vignette sets her plan in motion!
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h44m27s013
The final temptation!
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h44m58s918
The distraction is successful!
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h47m50s924
I still can’t believe Satania falls for Raphiel’s schemes.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h48m18s183
Raphiel’s inner sadist manifests!
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h48m34s215
This episode had fun with Vignette reaction faces, too.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h48m55s619
“It was an accident.”
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h51m01s623
Satania eats the edible Santa cake decoration.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h52m23s778
“We just need to replace it with a substitute.”
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h52m35s301
Raphiel sure is having her way with Vignette and Satania.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h53m12s376
Satania decorates the cake!
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h54m06s824
Raphiel’s intentional slip of the tongue is what finally causes Satania to remember her unholy crusade.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h54m57s165
The recollection is complete!
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h55m18s514
However, Vignette won’t let Satania ruin her Christmas party.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h55m49s668
Gabriel arrives to see this interesting sight.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h56m42s127
“Eh? What about Satania? Is something the matter?”
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-17h59m20s582
Satania declaring she’ll take over the world one day. In your dreams, maybe, demon girl.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h00m00s787
However, Vignette has had enough!
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h00m09s162
“It was an accident.”
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h00m57s072
“If you want to receive presents, then follow my instructions and become a good girl.”
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h01m45s232
As a result, Satania starts acting like a three-year-old. Raphi is into baby play, too, huh?

The second part of the episode has the group visiting a shrine to celebrate New Years’ Eve. The four girls get to experience human culture and customs fo themselves and all is basically well – until Gabriel gets drunk off amakaze (the fermented rice drink that’s either non-alcoholic or low-alcoholic).

vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h02m50s699
Raphiel getting turned on by the idea of visiting a shrine of another god.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h04m40s632
Vignette rescues Gabriel from the bustling crowd. Things would have turned bad if she was in there for 3 more seconds.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h06m15s201
Satania’s imagination running wild once again.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h07m54s373
Vignette stops Gabriel from cheating at the lottery.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h08m04s434
“Oh, yeah, sorry for wasting your lottery ticket. Here’s some amakaze.”
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h08m17s849
ENTER DRUNK GABRIEL
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h09m40s992
“Dude, I’m totally sober.”

The last segment has the girls visiting home. Gabriel and Raphiel is bound for Heaven while Vigne and Satania is headed towards Hell. Gabriel attempts to dress up in order to sneak games into Heaven, but things don’t really work out.

vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h11m07s599
Oh, my Dark Lord, Vignette’s outfit is so cute.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h11m20s908
While the other girls have dressed up, Gabriel has donned her old Angel School uniform. Perhaps it signifies that she has no presentable clothes? That she’s the most immature? Or maybe I’m thinking too much again.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h12m52s657
Ehhh I thought Heaven and Hell were further apart than that.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h14m32s727
The two angels show up at the customs checkpoint… only to find that Satania followed them.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h15m07s291
The demon terrorist is apprehended.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h16m42s211
Raphiel passes the inspection. Gabriel, however, first loses her portable gaming device.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h18m00s316
Then she tries to convince the guy that this Blu-ray player is a pancake griddle. No go.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h18m33s201
Last up is her laptop. Unfortunately for Gabriel, the guy still confiscates the device.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h21m49s930
Meanwhile Vignette is being a true friend and has come to fetch Satania.
vlcsnap-2017-03-06-18h21m54s593
They apologize over and over. But the real question is when do they get to eat the katsudon?
