5. You loves uniforms.
Ahh, she’s a woman of culture. I can’t help but admire a woman who has such a keen eye for minor details and who loves fashion. We can only thank You for consistently whipping up NINE costumes that manage to be both uniform (heh) yet unique! As expected of the chief wardrobe supervisor of Aqours!
4. She is dazzling.
As an energetic and outgoing girl with positive attitude (and an penchant for making people swoon by winking), You is probably the closet to truly shining out of all of the girls in Aqours. I’m of the opinion that Chika just needs to observe You a bit more if she wants to know what it takes to shine.
3. She is a renaissance woman.
She cooks, she draws, she designs and creates idol costumes, she wins over dozens of fans through sheer charisma, she judo flips gropers – Watanabe You can do it all and can do it well. She’s probably the Aqours with the most raw talent since she can pick up things very quickly. And I gotta say, all that competency is very attractive.
2. Yet she stays modest and plays a supporting role.
Despite being a GENIUS, You doesn’t let it get to her head. In fact, she’s content to just support others and help them accomplish their own dreams. Sure, she is trying to satisfy her own goal since she has always wanted to do something together with Chika, but she’s more than content to allow Chika to take the reins and be the leader.
But do you remember who subbed in for Riko for Omoi yo Hitotsu ni Nare (during S1E11)?
Who was watching over Chika as she tried her best to nail a cartwheel-backflip maneuver for Miracle Wave (during S2E6)?
Do you recall who hugged Chika to calm her down while she was freaking out over the fate of Uranohoshi Girls’ High School (during S2E7)?
That’s right! You will swoop in and really show her support for her best friend!
Unfortunately, this also apparently means You is relegated to a background role considering she has had very minimal screentime aside from S1E11. She’s taking one for the team for sure. That’s really just like You.
1. You won’t believe You is that snarky.
Or that smug. And we all know how much the internet values smug anime girls. She may not be the smuggest Aqours girl (since Mari’s around, but hey, guess who’s graduating and leaving the top spot open? Thaaat’s right), but You has some pretty choice moments.
She’s also gives James Bond a run for his money with her deadpan one-liners.
Alrighty, two more to go. Hopefully I did You justice in this post. The girl surely needs it.

You was actually my original pick for best girl, back in 2015 when we only had a key illustration and thumbnail bio for each girl – I liked that she was the sporty/athletic type, and she had a great design with her tousled hair and those baby blues (as a bit of trivia, You’s first thumbnail bio listed her as a first year and Yoshiko as a second year – they went back and changed that before the group’s official debut). I still like her just the same, it’s just that over time she’s been surpassed for me by the first years, and later by Riko. Which is kind of sadly fitting, given how much she’s been overshadowed in the story.

I had the same first impressions when I first saw her. I was so tempted to say she rocks short hair so well, but it wasn’t really a good enough reason. We all know this to be true, however.
Ah, I had forgotten to mention that bit of trivia in either post. Oh, well.
I’d say the situations is summed up in this video pretty well.

Top notch list. Like many other people, reason 3 is also my favorite aspect about You, if you have her as a significant other, you’re set for life. Another reason why I love You is definitely her seiyuu, Shukashuu. Oh my lord, she is incredibly funny and stunning, and is pretty similar to You, to be honest.
It is a real shame that she barely had screentime, but at least she’s loved by many 🙂

Your point number three alone makes her a primary choice of best girl for most people as you’d need some serious miracle to find another person like that in real life, whether a waifu or husbando!
